The Buell XB9S LIGHTNING this is a street bike, bike that delivers a short, responsive wheelbase, dirt-bike style riding position and 92 horses of Harley muscles. The Buell XB9S Lightning is a stout, muscular machine that defies being put into any conventional category. The frame is a rigid work of aluminum art; 2-rectangular spars that curve back from the gooseneck to a point in space just above the fully exposed, 17" rear wheel. The back rim just barely contains a fat, 180 mm Dunlop tire and is attached to the rest of the machine via a wishbone swingarm that serves as the oil reservoir.



Buell XB9S calls this feeling the "Naked Streetfighter Bike" approach to riding. The naked bike movement also helped popularize saved another manufacturer: Buell. Led by innovator Erick Buell, his early offerings were slow to catch on. But in 1996, the hooligan S1 Lightning debuted, and the Harley-powered bikes gained a much wider audience. BuellsLightning took a huge leap forward with the 2002 introduction of the XB9S Lightning.



The bike has a street fighter style, with no fairing of any sort, and high, dirt bike-type handlebars that place the rider in an upright position and give the rider good leverage for steering input. The bike strikes a very aggressive stance, with the new frame and swingarm giving it. Its a stubby, compact motorcycle that, metaphorically at least, walks around with its chest puffed up out and arms out wide. Of particular note concerning the design and appearance of the bike is that the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design bestowed upon the XB9S Lightning the 2002 Good Design Award.
